A striped fabric for the next quilt class at church.
This looks more complicated than it is. If any one wants to make this, here’s what to do:
Get about 1 1/2 yds of a stripe. This will get you a table runner. Keep the fabric folded as it comes off the bolt. Make sure stripes that are alike line up the whole cut of the fabric. Cut ten and a half inch strips. From the strips, cut ten and a half inch squares. Cut the squares into Quarter Triangle Squares. Separate the triangles into two piles: one with horizontal stripes and one with vertical stripes. Form new squares with four horizontal triangles and new squares with four vertical squares. Arrange as seen above.
I had made two mistakes. On the first cut of fabric, I didn’t line up like stripes before cutting. The stripes in some blocks don’t match up. Went back to the quilt shop and bought more fabric. As you can see, the stripes in some of the blocks match up nicely. I had an easier time lining up like stripes by folding the fabric the other way -cut ends together. It’s a little wonky in places, but I like it. The stripes are pretty busy, so the blocks that are off may not be noticed. It’s going to stay in my sewing room anyway. I’m thinking of putting a border on.
Pillowcases for my sister’s birthday.
Made this key fob designed by Lazy Girl Designs. You can wear it on your wrist to carry the house key when you go for a walk.
For one of my birthdays, my sister made these quilted trivets for me. She gave me whatever fabric she had left and I made tea cozies.
I’m going through these books again to learn about color and composition. I’d like to work the lessons in the top and bottom books.
