Thunderstorms, Lanterns, and A Commission

I really like thunderstorms. This morning started with an unexpected one. It prompted Mike to quote George Carlin’s Hippy Dippy Weatherman. So while Mike walked on the treadmill, I stood on the front porch at 4:30, watched the rain and lightening, and listened to the thunder while saying the rosary.

We spent a another lovely, long weekend in the St. Louis area with family. While I do like to get out and see things and visit people, it doesn’t take long for me to get homesick. One of the places I like in St. Louis is the Botanical Gardens. It’s a beautiful place. A special display of Chinese lanterns were being exhibited. Here’s a sample:

The lanterns are lit from within, but we didn’t see them at night.

I’ve been asked to remake a banner for a chapter of the Third Order of St. Francis. Here’s the original:

It’s to be quilted. I’m also to keep the figure of St. Francis and the Cross, but with more detail. I’m looking forward to doing this.
